Most eye problems can be corrected if they are detected and treated early.
Appropriate eye care is essential for maintaining good vision. Some problems, if left untreated--even for a short period--can
result in permanent vision loss. If you haven't had your eyes examined in over 2 years, now is the time to have them checked.
The more you learn about your eyes, the better you can help protect them!

Bidding Goodbye To Blindness |
| |
In late 2004, the FDA approved Macugen for wet age-related macular degeneration, a disease that affects the central vision. This drug helps preserve vision and limit progression of wet AMD to legal blindness.
Another such drug, Retaane, is also up for FDA-approval.
Macular degeneration is deterioration or breakdown of the macula, a small area in the retina at the back of the eye that allows you to see fine details clearly, read and drive.
There are two types of macular degeneration — "dry" and "wet." The condition almost always starts as the dry form, but about 15 percent of those with dry AMD eventually develop the wet form, which progresses faster and therefore causes more severe vision loss.
Macular degeneration is the leading cause of blindness for those aged 55 and older in the United States, affecting more than 10 million Americans, according to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.

Without enzymes life would cease to exist.
Individuals who are enzyme deficient are subject to unnecessary disease and degeneration.
Published scientific research shows that almost all degenerative diseases stem from a lack of complete digestion and improper elimination of what we ingest into our bodies.
If your body can't break food down properly, because of a lack of enzymes, particles of undigested food sit in your stomach and enter directly into your blood. Whatever you don't digest becomes a poison.
Your body sends out antibodies to get rid of this material. The particles of undigested food often land in soft tissues and cause inflammation, which can lead to bacteria build-up and disease.
A hundred different conditions, from acne to cancer, can begin this way.

Ask the Doctor (unedited) |

Question from : Audrey
What is the best way to treat a styx?
Dr. Webber:
Use hot compresses and gently massage the area after each time. If it does not resolve in a few days to a week, then see your eye doctor.

News Briefs: And the winner is... |

People successful enough to be presenters at awards shows are indeed getting laser eye surgery just because a coupon was in a gift bag between the Wonderbra and the universal remote control.
For the last year, a nontransferable coupon for Lasik surgery has been included in goodie bags at awards shows including the Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, ESPYs and even the Kids' Choice Awards. Apparently, staring at Yu-Gi-Oh trading cards can really mess your eyes up.

Preventative Medicine: EYE-SAVING DROPS FOR KIDS |
| |
In the past, a child with amblyopia, or lazy eye, had one treatment of choice: wear a temporary pirate-like patch over the good eye.
Today, children with lazy eye who can't or won't wear a patch are likely to choose special eye drops instead. A parent simply applies the drops once a day in the child's good eye for at least three months. By temporarily preventing the good eye from focusing, the drops force the lazy eye to work.
A recent study from the American Academy of Ophthalmology suggests that such drops work as well as a patch for treating lazy eye.
Amblyopia causes few noticeable symptoms; therefore, it's important that your children have an examination by an eye care professional on or before age 3. After age 9, treatment for lazy eye becomes less effective and may not work at all.
